HOCKING HILLS Two teenagers have been charged in the death of 44-year-old Victoria Schafer of Chillicothe. Schafer was killed when a tree branch fell from unnatural causes into the ravine where she was on a photo shoot.

Schafer was in the stairs new the lower falls area, when she was struck from a falling branch from above, she died at the scene of the accident.

The teens according to Hocking Hills and Ohio Department of Natural Resources were arrested on October 10th.

Police have attributed the information from the public that helped solve this crime.

It turns out the boys are both 16 years old and were caught when one texted someone that they did something at the park, a parent contacted authorities when they learned of this.  It's a shame this happened but both are being charged with negligent homicide something that will follow them for a long time to come,

The teens are being held at a juvenile detention center in Lancaster. Names will not be released unless they are decided to be tried as adults.

I heard about this earlier but not lately. Did they say how the tree branch fell besides just unnaturally?

Early on they had suspicions this wasn't a natural occurrence but no real proof, the more they looked into it the more they knew that 74 pound log didn't just happened to fall that 75 feet killing her. The reward grew to 10 thousand dollars for information leading to an arrest.
The entire park system has a cut and leave lay program when it comes to fallen trees, clear just enough to open a trail and that's it. It's interesting to know how they do things there, when they redid all the bridges and stone walls they brought in the Black Hand sandstone from a private quarry so it matched the stone already there. The steel hand rails and bridges steel is Core 10 steel that  blends in with the stone. There's a somewhat funny story about that steel but that's another thread Smiley

"Fickel said the boys admitted to forcing the log off the cliff, but their stories were inconsistent. "

So they just pushed it I guess. Sick!
